High minimum order quantities are one of the biggest barriers for sellers testing a new product. The good news: MOQs are frequently negotiable, especially once a factory sees a credible path to repeat orders.
Understand why the MOQ exists
MOQs usually reflect setup costs, raw-material batch sizes and the factory's appetite for small runs. When you know which of these is driving the number, you know which lever to pull.
Negotiate on the right terms
Offer to pay a modest setup fee, accept stock colours or materials, or commit to a forecast for future orders. These give the factory a reason to say yes without simply charging you more per unit.
Use a sourcing partner's combined volume
Working through a sourcing partner that already places regular orders with a factory can unlock lower MOQs than you'd reach alone, because you're borrowing against an existing relationship.
